Comments:
This story is continued from the first story of Blackhawk #255 and continues in the first story of Blackhawk #257.

The introductory text to this story states that Paris has just fallen. This place the story in early June, 1940. Paris was bombed on June 3rd and the Nazi occupation began on June 14th.

A text piece by Mark Evanier in this issue states that "Everything from Blackhawk #251 on takes place on Earth-1..." which is correct. However, it erroneously goes on to state "All previous Blackhawk tales take place either on Earth-2 or Earth-X...". This statement absolutely can not be correct since the Blackhawks met the Justice League in Blackhawk #228 and in Justice League of America #144. The DC published adventures of Blackhawk do indeed take place on Earth-1 despite Evanier's claim to the contrary.

Synopsis:
Blackhawk is hospitalized after his ordeal in the desert. He is still plagued by haunting dreams caused, unknown to him, by a medallion that he wears. While their leader is out of action, the Blackhawks fall under the command of Stanislaus who struggles with self-doubt in the field.

While Olaf is left behind to guard Blackhawk, Stan leads the team on a mission. The team locates a Nazi bunker commanded by Von Tepp. Professor Merson is also conducting super-soldier experiments inside. Two of the failed experiments are monster soldiers which capture the team except Stan. A third monster is sent to the hospital to abduct Blackhawk and Olaf.

Stan is the only Blackhawk that remains free. He uses a grenade to kill one of the failed super-soldiers. Von Tepp captures him and makes Stan the subject of the next super-soldier experiment. Stan is transformed into an obedient beast.

Meanwhile the other Blackhawks escape their cell and succeed in destroying the bunker. Merson departs safely, while Von Tepp escapes with Stan. The Blackhawks search in vain for their missing teammate unaware of the fate which has befallen him.
