Comments:
This story which reveals Arak's origin is continued from Arak, Son of Thunder #32 and continues in part in the first story of Arak, Son of Thunder #34.

Synopsis:
Arak is killed fighting a dinosaur. His spirit ascends a mountain and comes face-to-face with He-No, god of thunder, his father. He-No shows his son a vision of the past in the light of a fire. Arak's mother Star-of-Dawn had wandered away from the Quontaukan village and was attacked by a serpent spirit. He-No came to her aid, but not before the woman was bitten.

He-No took the girl to the land of thunder to heal. They fell in love and conceived a child. However, a longing to return to her own people drove Star-of-Dawn to leave. She returned to her village and gave birth to Arak. As the boy grew older he was haunted by dreams of the serpent. He was sent to contemplate the meaning of the dreams on a high peak.

While Arak was away, the Quontaukan village was attacked by the People of the Serpent. The villagers including Arak's mother were killed, and Arak found his way to a raft which was eventually recovered by the vikings. Arak blames He-No for not helping his people, but the god of thunder explains that he was engaged in battle with the serpent spirit. He sent a bolt of lightning that saved Arak's life even though it caused him to loss the battle with the serpent.

He-No then gives Arak a feathered mantle and asks him to join him in godhood. Arak refuses and demands to be sent back to Earth even if it means that he will be dead. He-No grants his son's wish, but bars Arak from ever returning. Arak then finds himself alive again in the valley where he had died.
