Synopsis:
Arak arrives in Byzantium to continue his search for Valda. Satyricus runs into trouble in the local marketplace when he accidentally destroyed a religious artifact. Arak defends him from the angry mob. Eventually the duo are aided by General Cometas who was they had met in Hellas.

Cometas leads them to the palace where Valda was scheduled to be taken. They arrive during an event in which the young emperor Constantine VI is presented with women who would make a potential wife. Valda interrupts the events and catches Constantine's eye. He claims her for himself.

Valda is angered and begins to fight the guards. Arak intercedes and claims Valda to prevent her death. Arak must then complete a challenge by swimming through a pool. When he enters the water a monster attacks him. He fends off the creature, which no one else can see, and reaches the other side. Despite successfully completing the challenge, Arak and Valda spark the emperor's ire and he orders their deaths.
