After the huns failure the assassinate Carolus Magnus, a war between the franks and huns begins. On the banks of the Istir, Valda fights on the side of the franks and captures several prisoners.
After the battle Valda leaves the group to bathe in the river. She spies a beautiful horse on the opposite bank and investigates. There she finds the bodies of three scouts and a group of man-eating horses. Valda mounts and kills one of them, but she falls and is rendered unconscious. A man in a horse mask arrives on the scene and calls off the horses before they kill her.
