While the Flash is apprehending the Owl Gang, a woman named Joan Boardman is possessed by the spirit of Elfriede Talman, a woman who disappeared before her impending marriage 100 years earlier. Joan then walks into the middle the of the Flash's fight and is injured after mistaking the Flash for Daniel Porter, Elfriede's fiance.
The Flash and Iris Allen bring the dazed woman back to their home. Barry has a vision of Elfriede and Daniel whom he resembles. To help break the spell, Barry allows himself to fall under the spell. He assumes the role of Daniel and completes the marriage to Elfriede.
After the wedding, the two enter the spirit realm. Elfriede returns to where she belongs, then the Flash navigates the spirit world, battles demons, and finds his way home. Joan awakens from the spell with no memory of being possessed.
