This story is continued from the first story of Justice League of America #78.

Synopsis:
Green Arrow arrives in time to save Vigilante, Batman, Atom, and Black Canary, and the villains are revealed as aliens intent on converting Earth's atmosphere into a gas which they alone can breathe. Superman and Green Lantern hear the last words of the last survivor of Monsan, who explains the origin of the Doomsters.

When Monsan became choked with pollutants, they had altered their body chemistry to enable them to thrive on waste substances, at the same time warping their minds so that they sought to pollute other worlds.

Meanwhile, Hawkman is almost killed in a space encounter with the Doomsters' fleeing ship. The returning Superman and Green Lantern invade the ship, and capture all the invaders except Chokh, their leader, who penetrates the JLA satellite, and almost succeeds in finishing off the other members but for the last-minute action of the Atom.

During the case, a romance springs up between Green Arrow and Black Canary.
