Later when the German's attack a French town, Savage rescues a young French woman. Her brother, a pilot named Raoul, returns from combat, having been shot down by a German called the Undertaker. Savage allows the Frenchman to take his plane up to get his revenge.

As the plane takes off, Savage is forced to ride on the wing. He promises Raoul that he will allow him to kill the Undertaker. Raoul succeeds with Savage's help, but the Frenchman dies in the process. Savage then takes over the controls and lands the plane.
