Synopsis:
Doctor Charles McNider is summoned from his research work to the bedside of a witness who has been wounded by racketeer Killer Maroni. McNider saves the life of the witness, but the crooks strike again. A grenade tossed through the bedroom window kills the witness and leaves McNider blind.

With the loss of his eyesight, McNider becomes a writer. He attacks Maroni in print, which angers the mob boss. At the same time, McNider discovers he possesses the ability to see in total darkness, but not in the light. He then fashions a costume and a set of goggles that allow McNider to see even in the light.

McNider becomes Dr. Mid-Nite. His first action is to save the life of a dying man who is also a witness against Maroni. Dr. Mid-Nite successfully performs surgery in the dark. Then he confronts Maroni personally. A fight ensues, and the new mystery man pervails.
