Synopsis:
Adam Strange answers the challenge of an alien shape-changer from the planet Ardvak. The shape-changer, Leothric, is the last of his race. He challenges Adam and Alanna to a hunt. If Adam fails to find him in three chances, he will place the planet Rann into suspended animation.

Adam begins the hunt in the jungle. When he thinks he has found the disguised Leothric, he uses a device that nullifies the alien's shape-changing power. However, Adam has chosen incorrectly and fails. He also fails in his second attempt underwater. In his final attempt to locate Leothric in the desert, Adam and Alanna each find candidates that could possibly be Leothric. Adam tricks the alien into revealing himself and wins the challenge.

Keeping his word, Leothric releases other champions from suspended animation and lets Adam and Alanna go free. Adam destroys his space ship to prevent him from conducting more challenges in the future.
