Synopsis:
Adam Horton awakens in a laboratory with amnesia. A man named Velie convinces Adam that he is not a man at all, but a creation of magic. Velie orders Adam to kill a man named Caldwell. Since he has no memory, Adam believes Velie and goes forth to kill.

Adam encounters the Phantom Stranger, then continues on his mission. The Phantom Stranger prevents the murder then follows Adam back to Velie. Adam then regains the memory that he is the assistant district attorney and Caldwell is his boss. To avoid prosecution as a gang chief Velie attempted to use Adam to kill Caldwell. The Phantom Stranger's interventon foils the plot, and Velie is taken into custody.
