Synopsis:
Superman chases a criminal who is killed during his escape. With his final words, the criminal reveals himself to be an evil magical creature that can infect a new host. The creature known as a Zohtt swears revenge.
Some time later, Superman is summoned into the future by the Zohtt and infected with a microbe that can kill him. The microbe serves as host to the Zohtt. Superman visits Kandor in an attempt to remove the microbe, but he is thwarted. Next, he asks for a blood transfusion from the people of Metropolis. Many people donate their blood, but the transfusion fails to free Superman from the microbe.
Superman then flies into deep space to die. When he does, the Zohtt leaves his body only to discover that there are no other life forms for it to possess. A pre-recorded message from Superman explains that the Zohtt must revive Superman in order for it to live. When it does, it discovers a trick. Superman swapped his body for an android which has permanently trapped the Zohtt. Superman slowed his own heart to feign death. Free of the microbe, a healthy Superman returns to Earth.
