Synopsis:
Jonah Hex is captured by Marshal Toby Ruster. The marshal attempts to cross a turbulent river with Jonah, but he is kicked in the head by a horse and killed. Jonah remains handcuffed to the dead marshal and is tossed into the river. Jonah is rescued by George Suborn and his girl Emmylou. In order to explain the handcuffs, Hex takes the dead man's badge and pretends that he is the lawman.

Jonah escorted into town and has the handcuffs removed. Then he is asks to help when a bank robbery is reported. Jonah chases off the bandits using dynamite. Hex is celebrated by the people of the town, but George finds a wanted poster with Hex's picture on it.

George tries to report his findings to the bank president Mr. Jeffries. He discovers that Jeffries was working with the bandits and is murdered for his discovery. Jeffries finds the wanted poster and goes after Hex. Emmylou tries to warn Jonah. She is shot before Hex can shoot the bandits. Emmylou survives and tells her story to the townspeople. They let Jonah leaves town without stopping him.
