Part 2: "The Legionnaire Dropouts"

Brainiac 5 is elected Legion leader in this story.

Synopsis:
Newly-elected Legion leader Brainiac 5 tells his comrades of a possible forthcoming invasion of Earth by unknown foes, but declares that their secret Plan-R will stop it. He then berates Ultra Boy and Phantom Girl for letting their romance interfere with their super-hero duties. When Saturn Girl rises to their defense, he accuses her and Lightning Lad of similar actions.

Meanwhile, secret agents of the invaders secretly spy on the Legionnaires. Their leader, Aarl, determines to capture one of them to learn what Plan-R is. When the heroes split up in search of the enemy agents, they grab Saturn Girl, but vanish when the others come to her aid.

Back at the Clubhouse, she and Lightning Lad tell Brainiac 5 of their decision to marry and leave the Legion, and Ultra Boy and Phantom Girl decide to do likewise. The two couples are wed in an elaborate ceremony, and the three alien spies decide to infiltrate the Legion as their replacements.

Under the guises of Size Lad, Blackout Boy, and Magnetic Kid, the aliens join the Legion. They then lure the others away from the Clubhouse, ransack it, find Plan-R, and take it to their world, Murra, to decipher.

When the Legionnaires return, Brainiac 5 reveals that he and Saturn Girl had staged this elaborate ruse in order to expose the spies and follow them to their homeworld. Once on Murra, Element Lad alters the pills the aliens take to give them super-powers, making them useless, and Superboy and Mon-El destroy the computer the manufactures them.

The "married" Legionnaires later rejoin the triumphant heroes on Earth, wistfully wishing their weddings had been real.
