Synopsis:
When Hawkgirl does not return from their spaceship after spring cleaning, Hawkman's attempt to reach the ship is interrupted by an attack by alien birdmen. When he finally reaches the ship, the aliens' leader, birdwoman Fal Tal, pushes Shayera from it, unconscious and without wings or gravity-belt, and Katar must save her without his own wings, stripped off in the battle.
Safe, Hawkgirl explains what's going on. The Kalvars, a winged race of explorers, came to Earth 500,000 years ago, and crashed after two of their ships collided, one landing on land, the other at sea. The seabound ship lay buried until brought to the surface by a diastrophic heave, awakening Fal Tal from suspended animation with the instinct to return home.
Unable to repair the ship, she sought out aid on Earth, and when she found Hawkgirl and the Thanagarian vessel, realized that she only needed to steal that ship to return to her world. Repairing the Kalvar ship, Hawkman and Hawkgirl chase down their own, easily overtaking and capturing it.
The Kalvars are towed to Thanagar and placed in a special environment to prevent their deaths, while they await trial for theft.
