Comments:
Shadow-Thief discovers the secret identities of Hawkman and Hawkgirl in this story.

Synopsis:
The Shadow-Thief makes off with the best of jewel collector Lucius Crane's donation to the Midway City Museum, and Hawkman's sudden appearance on the scene allows Sands to deduce his Carter Hall identity. When Katar is decoyed into picking up a booby-trapped pistol and is knocked out, Shayera takes him to their ship to recover.

Sands pays off his former cellmate, who broke him out of prison, revealing that his Dimensiometer had not been destroyed as thought after his first defeat by Hawkman. His new intention is to destroy Earth by beginning the next Ice Age with the Dimensiometer, as he wishes to rule the other-dimensional world of Xarapion, and so, to hasten things, he creates two more of the devices for Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Meeting during Shadow-Thief's theft of artwork, the couple receive these Dimensiometers against their wills, and are turned into shadow-creatures -- but on Xarapion, where they are solid and subject to injury, their Earth bodies hang helplessly in mid-air, simply echoing the shadows' actions.

When Sands paralyzes them, and hangs them in the lab of the device's inventor, Thar Dan, their bodies on Earth hang in mid-air helplessly. Katar is able to order birds to move them on Earth, which frees them on Xarapion, and when they free the similarly frozen Thar Dan, he alters their Dimensiometers to allow contact with Sands on Earth.

The Shadow-Thief is captured and placed in paralysis on Xarapion, and the Ice Age is halted.
