Synopsis:
A criminal called the Sphinx and his men attempt to rob a company of its payroll. The Blackhawks spot the crooks and stop them from making the heist. However they are unable to capture the Sphinx.

Later, an accountant, Ned Bates, is found with evidence linking him to the Sphinx. He claims he was framed and tips the Blackhawks off to the location of the real crooks hideout. When they arrive the Hawks are gassed and tied up. They manage to escape only after the crooks have left.

The Blackhawks follow the trail to an abandoned weather station where they witness the Sphinx jump into a raging river, killing himself. However they realize it was only a dummy, and they stick around to capture the real crook and his men. They also realize that Bates was the original Sphinx, so he remains in jail.
