Synopsis:
Ray Palmer and Jean Loring visit the home of Ray's former classmate, Ed Thayer. Ray sees the house in ramshackle condition, while Jean sees it in fine shape. They are admitted to the house by a man claiming to be Thayer's assistant. After Ray sees another apparent illusion, the man pulls a gun on the couple. He claims to have caused the illusions with an Illusion-Maker, then locks the pair in the cellar.

Ray escapes as the Atom. He discovers the man and his partner are working for a foreign power and have stolen Thayer's invention. However, the Illusion-Maker only seems to function in Pleasant Valley, because it is proximity to another Thayer invention, the Lithium Lamp. Atom captures the spies, then releases Thayer and Jean. The Lithium Lamp has a limited lifespan, so the Illusiometer ceases to function.
