This story contains a flashback to the third story of More Fun Comics #101, in which the Kents find Kal-El.
Synopsis:
Superboy is summoned to juvenile court where a judge orders him to reveal the identity of his parents. When Superboy refuses to name them, the judge rules that the Boy of Steel must be sent to a boys home. Witnessing the ruling, Mr. and Mrs. Smirt agree to adopt Superboy. Superboy reluctantly agrees.
After saying farewell to the Kents, Superboy goes to live with the Smirts. They attempt to exploit Superboy and use his powers for profit. Superboy double-crosses them. When the Smirts return to court, they choose not to adopt him.
The court once again tries to send Superboy to a boys home. This time he argues that the court must prove that he is a minor. After passing tests of strength and intelligence, the court rules that Superboy can care for himself. The Boy of Steel then returns to his home with the Kents.
