Synopsis:
Sheriff Swifty Mason of the small western town of Mesa Muerte is a laughingstock because he is too slow to stop the local crooks. Five Aces Flaherty the local gang boss plays a trick on Swifty by sending him a Johnny Quick uniform and phony speed formula. They use it to further humiliate the lawman.

When the real Johnny Quick hears about the situation, he visits Mesa Muerte. He disguises himself as Sheriff Mason and uses his speed to belittle the crooks. Flaherty thinks he accidentally stumbled upon the real speed formula and tries to recall the phony formula he gave Swifty. Johnny apprehends the crooks, then turns the town back over to Sheriff Mason who is now respected by townspeople and criminals alike.
