Synopsis:
While exploring a new set of caves, Cave Carson and his team encounter a dying man from inside the Earth. Following a trail left by the dead man, they discover an underground city with an artificial sun.

Bulldozer is captured by followers of Xanon, the mad leader of the people. Cave and Christie meet Alrud, a friend of Arhun, the dead man. Alrud is part of the resistance to Xanon. He tells the explorers that Xanon plans an invasion of the surface world, because their own civilization is dying.

With the help of Alrud and his trained creatures, Cave and Christie rescue Bulldozer and attack the palace. Xanon escapes and turns the artificial sun against the explorers. Alrud and his people are captured by Xanon who prepares to attack the surface. Cave uses the Mighty Mole to overheat the sun, causing it to explode. The invasion force is caught in the explosion, as is Alrud and the rebels. Cave and the team are the only survivors.
