Synopsis:
Vic Sage begins investigating a series of murders. All the victims are black. When a racist private investigator, Loomis McCarthy, shows up in town, Vic is suspicious. When he searches McCarthy's room as the Question, Vic is attacked by a black man. He escapes, but not before linking McCarthy to a white supremacist organization.

Vic traces the gun used against him to Jack Figlia. After another murder, the Question follows McCarthy to Figlia. The P.I. was hired by Caleb Philips, the leader of the white supremacist, to determine if the killings were connected to their group. Instead he determines that Figlia is using the killings to discredit his former business partner and mayoral candidate Royal Dinsmore.

Figlia sends Bernard Havins, the killer in his employee, to kill McCarthy. Instead, the P.I. kills Havins. Figlia escapes before the Question can stop him. Vic Sage gives his report on the local news. McCarthy comes to congratulate Vic, but Sage wants nothing to do with the racist. Figlia then breaks in to shoot Sage. McCarthy steps in front of the bullet and is killed. Some call the P.I. a hero for saving Vic, but the reporter is upset that his life was saved by a racist.
