History:
College student Mark Merlin spent his vacations working for his uncle "The Mighty Merlin", a great stage magician who was assisted onstage by a young woman name Elsa Magusson. Although Mark's uncle was not a disbeliever of true magic, he often exposed imposters who pretended to deal in real magic. The Mighty Merlin dies, but left a message that he was killed by supernatural causes. Investigating, Mark learned that his uncle was killed by "The Council of Three" for exposing fake magicians. The Council were themselves mysteriously destroyed and Elsa suggested they were killed by real supernatural beings. Merlin was intrigued by the idea, and decided to spend his life solving occult mysteries. He both exposed imposters as his uncle did, and battled those who used actual occult means to do evil. Elsa became his fiancee.

Eventually Merlin was transported to the otherdimensional world of Ra, where Kranak, a scientist of ancient Egypt, and his daughter Rimah lived as immortals. There Merlin gained mind-over-matter powers that allowed him to return to Earth, but only in the body of another man. He was reincarnated in his own time with the body and mind of Ra-Man, a prince of ancient Egypt. Ra-Man retained Merlin's powers and memory, but was a different person; the true Merlin was now dead. Ra-Man fought various mystical perils on Earth, but only recently did he reveal to Elsa what had happened to Mark Merlin. Prince Ra-Man died heroically in the crisis on infinite earths when he was slain battling the Anti-Monitor's shadow demons.

Powers:
Mark Merlin knew and could perform various magical spells and also utilized certain magical objects, such as his "Magic Eye", which could project illusions. Merlin also possessed a mystical "cat charm" that enabled him to transfer his mind into a black cat named Memakata, whom he found in the tomb of the pharaoh of the same name.

Ra-Man possessed Merlin's powers including the mind-over-matter powers Merlin gained just before his death. Ra-Man projected these powers in a beam from his forehead. He could levitate objects and rearrange their molecular structure. He later gained further magical power from Ra's sun. Ra-Man could also turn invisible.
