History:
Centuries ago, on the planet Korll, where the humanoid inhabitants evolved from insects, a scientist named Per Kazz developed an elixir of immortality. Unfortunately, he was very old, and the potion would only work on someone young and healthy. He hid the potion in three separate vials on the cloud-shrouded, uninhabited planet Somelar, in the same system as Korll.

Many Queens of Korll tried to find the elixir, but failed. At last came Queen Zazzala, who created an army of bee-men to find the potion for her. She first tested them by having them loot various worlds. But on Earth they failed, being defeated by the Justice League. She therefore threatened to destroy Earth if the JLAers did not get the vials for her.

This they did, but Green Lantern used his power ring to seal the vials so she could not open them.

It seemed that Zazzala would never attain immortality, but she proved more resourceful than the heroes had imagined. Back on Kroll, she searched the records of Per Kazz until she found his experiments on the green energy of the power rings. His experiments led to a device that enabled her to open the vials and become immortal.

Like Hector Hammond, she found that immortality also brought immobility. To overcome that, she had to become mortal again, and used the JLA once more, transforming them to tiny winged beings with her magno-nuclear rod. They restored her mortality, but the Atom managed to get her rod and use it to make her immobile once more.

How she managed to escape is uncertain, but she created a new rod (the first having been accidentally destroyed when Green Lantern tried to probe it with his power ring) and gathered a group of JLA foes to battle the heroes. Indeed, they captured all but Superman, who managed to free his friends and defeat the villains.

Zazzala controlled real bees in her next battle with the JLA. She insisted she was a victim this time – of a scheme that was transferring human intellect to animals. The real villain seemed to be Sonar, but the heroes discovered it was really Zazzala who was behind it.

Finally, the Queen Bee discovered a way of restoring her immortality and staying mobile. She drew magnetic energy from people in the form of tiny winged doubles of themselves. When they stung her, the effect transferred the energy to her and kept her mobile. Then she teamed up with the Planeteer, a villain who believes himself the reincarnation of Alexander the Great, and who has magnetic powers. She had an excellent source of magnetic energy here – but Superman foiled the two and sent Zazzala to a space-prison, where, minus her frequent "fixes" of magnetism she must be immobile.

Powers:
Zazzala now has immortality, so she cannot be killed – but without magnetism, she is motionless. When she has her magno-nuclear rod (sometimes called an energy rod), she can do many wonderful things; including controlling the bee-men of her planet (her drones) and real bees. To some extent, she can control humans as well. She can change people's size, give them wings, draw out magnetism – do, in fact, almost anything she wishes. Being an insect-woman, she has wings and can fly.
