History:
Desiring unlimited power and wealth, Professor Ivo decided the first goal should be to achieve immortality. To this end, he built the android Amazo with the ability to steal the powers of the Justice League members. Then, using the powers he temporarily lifted from the heroes, Amazo gathered several of the oldest living things on Earth, at the same time capturing most of the JLA members.

Ivo then discovered the secret of long life and made a serum that would extend his life to 500 years. He tried stealing the JLAers' powers for Amazo permanently but was foiled by Green Lantern, who used yellowish chlorine gas to stop Amazo's duplicate power ring. Ivo was sent to prison for a 500-year sentence – and he would live that long!

A few years later, Ivo escaped, and this time set about stealing the JLAers' powers himself. To do this, he duplicated the Flash's aura. Then he was able to take the powers of any of the heroes, at the same time duplicating their costumes. Though he did not know it, the Flash was also becoming a duplicate of each hero at the same time. Ivo made his big mistake when he tried stealing Superman's powers. This overloaded his machinery, causing an explosion that wrecked Ivo's lab – and knocked him cold.

It may have had a greater effect on him, for after that, Ivo reformed. He did not go back to prison, but did grow a mustache, take a new name (Ives), and get a job as an astronomy professor at a small New England college.

Doubtless he would have remained happily employed as a college professor it it had not been for a delayed reaction to the life-extending drug he had taken. It changed him into a hideous monstrosity.

He built new androids to kidnap six persons with a particular genetic makeup – one of them being the Black Canary. Ivo had had built a machine that would transfer his victims' life force into his body, restoring his humanity.

However, the JLA traced Black Canary to Ivo's lair and captured him. He was judged insane and placed in Arkham Asylum.

Ivo escaped and built a new life-siphon machine – this one capable of restoring him with the life force of one man – Superman. To capture the Man of Steel, he recovered Amazo and reprogrammed him to follow his creator's orders. Once more, Superman defeated him, and Ivo is presumedly still in Arkham.

In the 30th Century, Ivo began selectively killing descendants of the JLA, only to be thwarted by the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Powers:
Although he has extended his life, Ivo is not immortal. He is not invulnerable and he has a brilliant scientific mind, which enables him to create amazing machines and androids. As he is not particularly skilled in battle, or terribly strong, he preferes to use androids for his dirty work.
