History:
Over the centuries, the theme of brother versus brother ran deep throughout the legends of the undersea civilization of Atlantis. Unfortunately, it also meant spilled blood as brother fought brother, sometimes to the death. When Atlantis's Queen Atlanna was about to have a child, the spirit of Man came to her. It was Man's duty to restore the diluted spirits of Atlantean kings, and Manna's child was to possess strength of leadership and the ability to command sea creatures. This child was Aquaman. It was also Man's duty to go forth and sire another son since, as he said, "For two brothers must always struggle for Atlantis. That is fate."

Who Atlan chose to father the man called Ocean Master remains a mystery Ocean Master's other known name is Orm Marius, and he, upon reaching adulthood, became a criminal, unleashing a series of sea crimes. He boasts a charismatic personality that allows him to usurp manpower and technology easily, bending each to his purposes. Originally Ocean Master sought to improve his financial position via whaling, but quickly came to clash with Aquaman. During one such encounter, it became obvious that Aquaman and Ocean Master shared some type of bond, and that caused even deeper tension between the two. Neither had read the chronicles of Atlantis and they remained ignorant of the role they played in history Ocean Master ultimately resorted to direct attacks on Aquaman's personal life.

Searching for ways to gain a power that would match or better Aquaman's, Ocean Master began searching for information about Atlantis. He soon uncovered several volumes of the Atlantis Chronicles. Each volume, kept by an appointed historian, gave rich detail into the life and times of Atlantis's twin cities of Poseidonis and Tritonis. Ocean Master learned the history of magic and its relationship with Atlantis, which has been claimed in other sources to be a focal point for magic and mythology since its birth hundreds of thousands of years ago.

Ocean Master soon commanded huge amounts of magic energy and used it to manipulate sea life and citizens of other undersea cities. The study of sorcery twisted his mind, driving him to the edge of madness and unleashing a sadistic side that proved to Aquaman that his adversary had all but lost his humanity Ocean Master used his hatred of Aquaman to channel the mystic energies, and Aquaman rechanneled his own aggressive emotions in an effort to weaken Ocean Master.

During a battle on a spiritual plane, Aquaman and Ocean Master examined the causes of their hatred and their mutual need. All it took for Aquaman to turn the tide in his favor was to admit that if Ocean Master were indeed his half-brother, he would love him. When he returned to his corporeal body, Aquaman could only find Ocean Master's helmet, with no other trace of Orm to be seen.

Ocean Master's current condition and whereabouts are unknown.

Powers:
Ocean Master has repeatedly proven to be a master tactician and nautical genius. He had greatly expanded his knowledge of Altantean lore and sorcery before disappearing, and will inevitably use this knowledge in his future machinations.

In the past, Ocean Master has demonstrated that he is a skilled hand-to-hand combatant, able to match most humans in a fight. Whenever he faced Aquaman in a physical confrontation, he always lost, so he has no enhanced strength. Yet now that he has existed on a spiritual level, he may have the ability to utilize previously unknown energies. Often, it was his anger and weapons that allowed him to be victorious over foes other than Aquaman.

While Ocean Master has employed various forms of high-tech equipment, none of it has been of his own design. His battle armor and helmet allow him to withstand the pressure of great depths. His helmet apparently provides some form of "gill" function, giving him oxygen to survive for long periods of time beneath the waves.
