History:
On December 31, 1899, the members of a cult gathered to sacrifice the lives of two infants to Satan. Instead, the sinister mystical entity Koth took the souls of the cult members. Zator, a disciple of the mystics known as the Seven, who were Koth's enemies, rescued the two infants and brought them to the Seven's hidden citadel. Recognizing that the infants had mystic potential, the Seven decided to let Zator raise them as his pupils. Zator named the infant boy and girl Doc and Rose.

As Doc and Rose grew, they learned to master various mystical abilities. Upon reaching maturity, Doc, who was more naturally adept at mysticism than Rose, was presented with the mystic symbol of the Seven and was given the name Doctor Occult. The girl was given the full name of Rose Psychic. They were told to use their powers to battle evil in the outside world.

Arriving in New York City in the 1920s, Dr. Occult took the name "Richard Occult" as his "real" name. After earning a doctorate, Occult became a private investigator specializing in cases involving the paranormal (a "ghost detective"), hiring Psychic as his silent partner and undercover investigator. Together, they defeated various supernatural menaces during the 1930s.

In late 1936, Doctor Occult aided the Seven in defeating Koth. During his battle against Koth, Occult wore a costume the Seven gave him; hence, he was the first costumed hero of the Golden Age.

Having somehow retained his youth, Doctor Occult is still active today an participated in both the Crisis and the battle against the Shadow Creature that menaced Heaven.

Powers:
Although Doctor Occult relies primarily on his sharp analytical mind in solving cases, he also possesses various mystical abilities. He can journey rapidly over vast distances on Earth by traveling through the astral plane. He can become immaterial for very brief periods. He can move small quantities of matter through mystical mental means. He can also create illusions through a mystical form of hypnotism. He can apparently change his size (although it is possible that he only casts an illusion that he does so). Rose Psychic also possesses all of these abilities.

Doctor Occult carries the "mystic symbol" of the Seven, with which he can repel and exorcise various supernatural beings and perform other mystical feats.
