History:
Adam Strange, the Earthman who became the great hero of the planet Rann, grew up in a desert in the United States. His mother died when he was quite young and his father was sickly, so Adam was raised by his older sister Janice; Adam's older brother Todd left home while Adam was still a boy and eventually died in Singapore.

From boyhood, Adam was fascinated by archaeology. Leaving home at the age of sixteen, Adam worked his way through school and gained worldwide fame at the age of twenty-three for his discovery of the Crawnee caveman dig; his next few expeditions were failures, however.

It was during an expedition to South America that Adam Strange's life was radically altered. While fleeing from pursuing natives, Strange was struck by a Zeta Beam, a form of radiation that teleported him instantaneously to Rann, a planet revolving around the star Alpha Centauri. Rann was populated by a humanoid race biologically identical to the people of Earth, save for some minor differences. There Strange met Sardath, the scientist who was the ruler of Ranagar, Rann's principal city-state, and who had created the Zeta Beam. Strange also met Sardath's daughter Alanna, with whom he soon fell in love.

Sardath explained to Strange that the Zeta Beam had been intended as a form of communication, and that he had not expected it to teleport anyone to Rann. Strange believed Sardath's tale, but in fact, Sardath was lying. A nuclear war a thousand years ago had rendered most of Rann's population sterile; Alanna was one of the few people born on Rann in the recent past. Sardath had intentionally brought Strange to Rann in the hope that he would serve as a mate for Alanna capable of fathering her children.

Adam Strange became a great hero on Rann, using his ingenuity and Rann's technology to defeat numerous menaces to the people of that world. Ironically, many of the people of Ranagar were prejudiced against their great defender since he was, in their eyes, an alien.

A side effect of the Zeta Beam was that its radiation eventually wore off, returning Adam Strange to Earth. Strange would then calculate when and where the next of Sardath's Zeta Beams would strike, always somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere, so that he could again be transported to Rann.

Adam finally married Alanna, and she was nearly ready to give birth to their first child when Adam made what he believed would be his final journey to Earth. He would then be transported back to Rann by one of two "Mega-Zeta Beams" which Sardath had sent to Earth and whose teleportational effect would not wear off, enabling Adam to remain on Rann. On this last trip to Earth, Strange had an affair with Dr. Evelyn Fox, the physician treating his dying father.

The Mega-Zeta Beams transported first Adam Strange and then Evelyn Fox to a Rann that had been plunged into chaos. Alanna died while giving birth to her daughter, Aleea. Another city-state, Zared, launched an all-out attack on Ranagar. Sardath, having gone insane, launched the city of Ranagar – now housed within a protective egg-shaped vessel – into outer space in order to save it from the Zaredians. Alanna's mother Bantteir, long separated from Sardath, took charge of Ranagar and is a leader in the process of establishing a new government for the city-state. On Fox's prodding, Strange began to emerge from a deep state of depression to take care of his newborn daughter and to help restore order to Ranagar.

Powers:
Adam Strange possesses no superhuman powers, but instead relies on his sharp analytical mind to contend with the perils he faces. He wears a rocket pack on his back that enables him to fly. Strange uses various weapons created by the technology of the planet Rann, including a gun that fires destructive blasts of energy. Strange is a skillful and formidable hand-to-hand combatant.
