History:
After growing up in American slums, the two marines nicknamed Gunner and Sarge became a team who carried out numerous successful missions in the Pacific area of operations during World War II. (Gunner derived his nickname from the fact that he used a submachine gun in battle.) Early in their wartime career, Gunner and Sarge were assigned a trained dog from the K-9 Corps to alert them to the presence of enemy troops. The dog, whom the team nicknamed Pooch, often saved their lives.

After many exploits in the Pacific, Gunner and Sarge were reassigned to the European theater of operations to train new recruits. However, their first band of recruits were all killed on their first patrol. Blaming themselves, and still haunted by their own upbringing in the slums, Gunner and Sarge thought of themselves as "losers". Shortly afterwards, Gunner and Sarge were picked up by the Haunted Tank and encountered former P.T. Boat commander Captain Storm and Air Force pilot Captain Johnny Cloud, who had also come to see themselves as "losers". Together the four men helped the Haunted Tank on a dangerous mission. As the suggestion of Military High Command, these four joined forces to become a detached service task force code-named the Losers.

Pooch was reassigned, but rejoined Gunner and Sarge in time for their final mission with the Losers. Regrettably, Gunner, Sarge, and Pooch were all killed in action in the final days of the Second World War.

Powers:
Gunner and Sarge possessed various commando skills that served them well in the Losers. They were both highly effective hand-to-hand combatants.
