Comments:
This is an Adam Strange and Hawkman team-up story.
This story continues in part in the first story of Mystery in Space #91.
Synopsis:
Rann scientist Oran Dargg modifies the Zeta-Beam, transporting the entire planet Earth into Alpha Centauri's star system in an orbit opposed to that of Rann -- accelerating just enough to mean imminent destruction of both world in one week. Adam Strange and Alanna discover Earth's Sphinx, Colosseum, and Iwo Jima flag-raising statue near Rann's Karralian Marshes, animated by Dargg's modified Zeta-Beam. They destroy these, and when Adam's radiation wears off he returns to Earth, he just misses Hawkman and Hawkgirl, who, investigating the theft of Lake Superior, have traveled to Rann in their spaceship. As Alanna travels to Earth in a limited-range ship to pick up Adam, Dargg presents his ultimatum to the planet, threatening to flood them out unless he is made world ruler.
Hawkman and Hawkgirl are able to dissipate Lake Superior into rain, and meet Sardath, to learn his plan to return Earth to its former position in space with a Zeta-Beam nullifier. The Thanagarians aid the Rann army in preventing the Marshes from being destroyed by Dargg. The attempt to flatten them, using Earth's Mount Everest, ends when they are able to disintegrate most of the mountain.
When Alanna and Adam return, the four team up with the army to stop Dargg, who tries to stop them by teleporting each couple to separate doom traps. All escape and capture him, but not before he destroys his Zeta-ray machine, preventing them from stopping their planets' collision. However, Sardath perfects the nullifier, and Adam travels into space to use it, saving both worlds.
Since he had not arrived by Zeta-Beam, Adam has to return to Earth with Hawkman and Hawkgirl, because of inner radiation which would cause his death if he stayed on Rann for a year, so Alanna agrees to come to Earth with him to become his wife.
The Earth landmarks destroyed in the battle are apparently reconstructed due to the nullifier's effect.
