Synopsis:
Coast City has been struck by a mysterious Vanishing Plague. People first become pale, then they lose weight, and finally they disappear completely. Working with the local hospital, the Flash plans to bring the next reported victim to a hospital care unit at top speed. Green Lantern will then use his power ring to try and prevent the person from disappearing. Also at the hospital are Carol Ferris, who has volunteered as a nurse, and Iris West who is covering the story for her newspaper.
When the call comes in that Mortimer Perkins has been stricken, Flash races to his aid. He brings him to the hospital, but Green Lantern’s ring is having no effect on saving the patient. Suddenly, Green Lantern also begins showing signs of the plague. He believes that his will was weakened by it’s onset. Flash carries GL to his power battery to recharge the ring. As GL fades into nothingness, Flash uses the ring to save his friend. It doesn’t work, and Green Lantern fades away.
Suspecting a micro-organism is responsible Flash returns to the hospital and begins running tests. He uses a powerful electron microscope, but he is unable to locate anything. He uses the power ring to magnify the tissue samples even further. Finally he discovers a tiny creature which looks evil. Flash shrinks himself with the power ring and attempts to locate the creature.
In the sub-atomic world Green Lantern and the other victims of the plague are caged by the Mikrids, a sub-atomic race. The mikrids use the human’s brain power to enslave a worker race known as the Bowerds. When the Mikrids arrive to take Green Lantern away, he fights them. Flash arrives and returns the power ring to GL. The two heroes fight off a few Mikrids and rescue Henry Fairfax from a machine designed to sap his brain power.
When Flash and Green Lantern arrive at the building which contains the Mikrid leaders, they learn that Carol and Iris have been drawn into the sub-atomic world. The Mikrid leader reveals a machine that will kill them if the heroes use their powers. The two heroes don’t give up and battle using only their fists. Flash destroys the machine which allows them to use their powers again safely. They finish off the Mikrids and place the Bowerds in charge of the world. They return the captured people home, and Green Lantern uses his ring to rejuvenate the drained men.
Later, in their secret identities of Hal Jordan and Barry Allen, the two take Carol and Iris to dinner.
