Synopsis:
A secret meeting is held by the Manhunters. Sleeper agents that have been planted in the lives of many super-heroes are in attendance. The Grandmaster announces plans to kill a group of people that will soon threaten them. Tom Kalmaku has followed Smith from Ferris Aircraft to the meeting. He is caught spying, and the Manhunters try to kill him.
At the Green Lantern Citadel, Herupa Hando Hu and Nadia Safir return from another dimension. They ask the Green Lanterns to summon the other heroes of Earth. The Justice League, members of Infinity, Inc., the Outsiders, and other heroes soon arrive. The Guardian informs them that ten Earth people will be selected to start the next race of immortals. They ask the heroes to protect these individuals.
When the Guardian finishes his speech, the Flash asks why the Teen Titans were not invited. The Guardian explains that Terra was selected to become one of the chosen immortals. Geo-Force explains that his sister is dead. When the Guardian's lack of omniscience is evident, dissension builds in the ranks of the heroes. Superman steps up in support of the Guardians. The other heroes fall in line. They return to their lives awaiting further instructions. The Manhunter sleeper agents then begin revealing themselves.
