Synopsis:
Jim Corrigan and several of his associates from Cryptica Crimes head to the desert to investigate a cattle mutilation which is believed to have been caused by a paranormal event. They find a dead cow with its stomach sliced open. They also encounter strange lights and the bodies of two government agents stripped of their flesh.

When the group is attacked by a swarm of bats, they take refuge in a cavern. The group is forced to split up. Corrigan becomes the Spectre and finds an open gateway to another dimension. Meanwhile Bug McGrew has fallen asleep and is abducted by a seemingly alien creature.
